Music is transformative. It inspires, enlightens and brings communities together. Music also has the power to teach. It can act as a springboard for lessons about language, history and sociology.

 

That’s why education is central to TME’s mandate. We see schools as essential partners in putting students in touch with Toronto’s rich musical past. Through interactive exhibitions, workshops, concerts and panel discussions, TME will showcase the origins and evolution of the city’s sounds—from Indigenous, classical, folk, jazz and blues to pop, rock, reggae, hip-hop and electronic.

 

Museums should never be static repositories filled with dusty artefacts, but vital, experiential hubs where history is brought to life in bold new ways. TME will engage young music lovers and our next generation of artists by drawing the dots between the city’s music legends and the biggest stars of today.
